Development of a platform for wind farm management with Vector Renewables
Technical design and Frontend programming for a renewable energy company, based on a Modular Architecture with Angular.
The challenge
We assisted Vector Renewables in creating a platform for managing their wind farms. The platform operated with a monolithic architecture designed to serve only the park managers and was far from current digital standards.
The Methodology
During several working sessions, we learned about the operation of wind farms: operation, roles, permissions, KPIs, and alerts. These meetings allow us to deeply understand the workflows of the users who will use the platform and design a user-centric product that perfectly meets their expectations.
We interpreted the information processed in the previous meetings to design a prototype of the platform. The prototype recreates the user experience on the platform without the need for programming. It is a mock-up product that allows us to validate in advance whether it meets expectations before dedicating resources to programming.
Depending on the environment and the product, we carry out the prior user validation by applying the principles and methodology of design thinking. In these cases, feedback is collected in specific workshops with control groups representing the different user groups and interacting with them through test tools.
The Solution
Our team worked in parallel on the technical design of the platform. The shift from a monolithic architecture to a modular architecture involved the design and programming of an API that connected the backend with the frontend. We developed the frontend of the platform using Angular. A team of two developers specializing in Angular integrated with the backend team working in the company’s offices. Our technical management maintained an open, ongoing collaboration with their technical management, providing the necessary support to ensure the new architecture was a success.
