MAPFRE
Development of Mapfre’s corporate portals
We transformed WordPress into Mapfre’s main corporate CMS at the international level.
The challenge
Transform WordPress into Mapfre’s main corporate CMS at the international level, providing solutions to their specific needs and meeting the requirements of security, scalability, and efficiency.
Methodology
Analysis and definition
We started by analyzing Mapfre’s specific needs to ensure that the proposed solution aligned with their requirements. The use of WordPress was proposed due to its versatility and flexibility when creating and updating content, which perfectly matched the objectives given from Marketing.
Solution employed
We isolated the frontend layer from the WordPress part intended for management. In this way, content managers can access to create, update, or modify pages and/or sites with the flexibility and simplicity of the CMS, but allowing a very high level of personalization in the front end, which we developed to measure.
Result
This separation into layers also implies an optimization in performance, which results in faster loading of content, and an increase in the security of the portals, which we reinforce with other measures and with specific developments.
For the frontend, we developed a parent theme that functions as a centralized matrix. From it, child themes can be created, from which all specific portals are derived, both for different countries and for different lines of business.
To make the adaptations more agile and personalized, we developed a component library of generic and reusable components, which can be used in child themes to modify them. This allows us to maintain consistency in the standards used, in addition to promoting the autonomy of each site, without losing the generic approach in terms of functionality, security, and design.
Solution
We managed to balance the advantages of WordPress, such as flexibility or versatility, with everything that is required of a corporate environment like the one Mapfre needed: security, optimization, functionality, unification…
We implemented a frontend layer independent of the core of WordPress, which allowed us to secure the project and provide it with a greater level of personalization and scalability.
The component library gives modular support to all Mapfre sites and countries. It is a solution so that each country or each line of business has independence in the management and construction of its sites to measure, but maintaining unified criteria with the parent site in terms of security and design.
